Demand for housekeepers in China during Holidays

Chinese calendar began in 2697 BC when the Yellow King became king. January 29, 2006 is the first day of the Chinese New Year and 2006 is said to be the Year of Dog. When preparing for the Chinese Lunar New Year, a thorough cleaning of house is must. However when bunch of families decide to do the same thing at the same time, housekeepers become in short supply in big cities. In the eastern city of Quanzhou, at least two days before, reservations for housekeepers have to be made. In the southern city of Guangzhou, housekeepers' hourly wages have gone up by 50 percent. Many families have booked housekeepers in advance to cook the big dinner on the Lunar New Year's eve. So there will be increase in demand for housekeepers during every Chinese Lunar New year. The next year is the Year of the Pig beginning from Feb. 18, 2007.
