Au pair

Au pair is taken from French, which means "equal to". They are young foreign nationals live with a host family in equal basis. Typically they are young woman, or sometimes a young man, who is accepted into to the host family as an extended family member. They help the family with childcare or other domestic work while staying as a guest of the family and generally receiving a small amount of money.

Au pair are expected to respect cultural differences and show tolerance towards the family members.They may or may not have any previous experience in childcare. Au pair are different from nannies. Nannies are childcare professionals.
