Childcare tragedy

Need for child care is getting increased every day on the Outer Cape. Many of the small daycare centres have closed due to high costs of living and increasing cost of insurance. Many young families need two incomes to survive, which means they need childcare.

The Children's Place through grants from the state offers assistance for families in need for preschool age children, which provides a sliding scale based on need. There are no grants for infants and toddlers. Sending a toddler to daycare, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. five days a week, costs $702 per month, and what if you have more than one child.
I know several families that have looked into every type of job available where they can bring the children to work. Many of these families have two parents who want to work and help drive our economy but with the high cost for child care they cannot afford to do.
