Family day care


Family day care has an image problem most of the parents, particularly new parents, do not know it exists! Parents choosing child care often start looking for child care centres and nannies, without considering family day care. However, family day care can endow with the perfect amalgamation of stimulating activities along with safe home environment for your child. Family day care is afforded in the home of a registered or licensed carer for children aged from birth to 12 years. A carer can look after an inadequate number of children.

They can care for:

Up to 4 or 5 children who have not started school. This limit depends on the state or territory legislation
Up to 7 children in total, including their own children under 13 Family day care services can provide full-time, part-time or casual child care, with hours agreed between the parents and carer. Carers are normally available on weekdays, but in some circumstances they can also provide care on weekends and overnight.

Most family day care services are recognized and operated by community groups or local government authorities, such as a church or council. Some private for-profit organizations also provide family day care. A local co-ordination team chains carers with training, resources and regular home visits. Usually, these carers will be women with children of their own. The local co-ordination teams sort out training in areas such as health and safety, nutrition and child development.
