Babysitter

The Needham Youth Commission is offering two babysitting courses this fall for young people interested in learning child-care skills. The courses will cover a range of topics, from preparing for an interview for a babysitting job to appropriate behavior on the job. Safety will be the focus throughout the classes, and participants will review basic first aid and emergency preparedness. However, participants will not be certified in first aid.

Two seminars will be offered: Wednesdays, Nov. 8, 18 and 29; and Tuesdays, Nov. 21 and 28, and Dec. 5. Each training will meet at Pollard Middle School, 200 Harris Ave., from 2:45-4:45 p.m. Participants must attend all three sessions within one seminar for certification.

Spacing is limited and pre-registration is mandatory. The fee for this program is $45 per student to cover the cost of materials. This fee can be waived in the event of financial need. The application form, parental permission form, and fee must be mailed to or dropped off at the Youth Commission Office, 1471 Highland Ave., no later than Nov. 2 for the Nov. 8 seminar, and Nov. 16 for the Nov. 21 seminar. Students must be in the sixth grade to take the course.
