British nannies are fending off competition from cheaper child-carer from European Union accession countries and commanding salaries that comfortably outstrip those enjoyed by police officers and university lecturers in a successful way. The figures from Nannytax show that salaries have stabilized after some dramatic fluctuations in past years, such as 2003 when central London prices surged by 15 per cent for live-in nannies. Various agencies have also reported that they are stressed to assemble the high demand for live-in nannies as most potential child-carers are not prepared to forgo the independence of having their own homes.
