Nanny laws again on upswing

Throughout the country, lawmakers are passing the laws for regulating the grease your doughnuts are fried in, the calls you make from the road and what you listen to while crossing the street even the bat your kid uses to hit the baseball. Normally the ideas are offered with the best intentions for minimizing a newly recognized danger or to encourage healthy behavior. Detractors counter that regulating French fries as well as Blackberries mainly infringes on personal liberties. Some critics also call it as "Nanny Government," and they point to a playpen full of behavior-related bills before city councils and state legislatures. Attempts were also made by the government for making changes in the public behavior have a very long history, from Prohibition not only in the '20s to safety belt laws in the '80s but also smoking bans in the '90s.
