Childcare trainees 'dropping out'

Federal Labor said that nearly four out of five people who have started a childcare course in Queensland drop out before completing it. Also in NSW, Victoria, the Northern Territory and Western Australia, more than half of childcare trainees drop out without ending up the course. Opposition families and community services spokeswoman Jenny Macklin said only 20 percent of course starters in Queensland and 40 percent of those in NSW finished. And every childcare centre that Ms Macklin has been to is for more qualified staff. Children need high quality care, and to convey it the childcare centre need qualified staff.
