The professional nanny is no longer simply the "helper" who takes the children to school and after-school clubs and tucks them up in bed as per the report. She must also fill the role of third parent, personal nurse, chef and teacher as an alternative. It is claimed, she has become the tool to advance the interests of aspirational middle class parents in effect. The report given by Gumtree.com, a network of free online classifieds and community websites, said dual working parents were paying over the odds and offering classy perks in order to persuade such nannies to work 12 hours a day to cater to their children's every need and give them an out-of-hours education while they are at it. Almost half of the 800 parents polled said they hired so-called "super nannies" to act as a surrogate parent and teacher, leaving some time themselves for climbing up the career ladder.
