Normally for kids, summertime is a main time to make a little morsel of their own money. While mowing lawns or setting up lemonade stands can afford a small amount of cash and for many adolescents babysitting is the summer job of choice. But taking on the responsibility of somebodys children, even for a short time period could prove disastrous for an unprepared or uneducated babysitter. Patricia Sidebottom has taught the class for several years and taught their students always leave knowing more than when they came in. Still some students are there as their parents want them to learn in case they need to baby-sit younger siblings, but most of them are enterprising, she said. The two-day class mainly focuses on topics from how to feed an infant as well as how to react when an alien comes in. And Patricia added that safety for both babysitter and babysat is the most significant part. Students also learn basic skills involved such as checking the temperature of a bottle, diapering and keeping their charges entertained.
