Types and Definitions of Household Staffing:
Full-time Nannies
Many families have demanding schedules or are two-parent working families
and require full-time help with the children. Families which have children
who are not yet old enough to attend school require a caregiver whose
focus is directed solely on the welfare and well-being of the child. In
the case of older children light household chores and/or errands may be
required. Most frequently, the nanny cares for the children in the family's
home and undertakes all duties related to the care of the children, including
the domestic tasks relating to the children. They may or may not have
had any formal training, though often have a good deal of actual experience. These
positions generally range anywhere from 40-50+ hours a week and salary
is based on experience
Full/part-time
Mother’s Helpers
Lives in or out and works for a family to provide full or part-time childcare
and domestic help for families in which one parent is home most of the
time. These positions are very similar to
full-time nannies, however at
least one parent (usually the mother) does not work outside the home.
This parent requires assistance in the care of the child(ren) and the
household. The amount of emphasis placed on each of these roles for the
parent and the
nanny at any given time is contingent on the family's needs
and requires flexibility on any given day. Salary based on experience.
Full-time Governesses
Nannies go through complete background checks - including criminal background
check, credit check, social security trace, outstanding warrants and wants
reports, references, and driver's license. They must have AT LEAST finished
high school or earned a GED, legal residence/work papers, and prior childcare
experience. And they must speak English.
Baby nurses
A
baby nurse is a new born specialist.
Most
baby nurses are not registered nurses or licensed practical nurses.
Rather, they are people with a deep understanding of the developmental
and physical stages of newborns. Most have taken courses to stay current
with the latest newborn philosophies. Some have even completed special
programs to enhance their skills and comfort level.
Baby Nurses will take special care of your newborn.
They will help teach the parents how to care for their infant including
bathing, feeding, diapering, dressing, laundry and maintenance of the
baby’s room. They will help get the baby on a schedule, which will
help the parents sleeping pattern once the baby nurse leaves.
The
time a baby nurse stays with a family is usually between 1-6 months, but
is negotiable depending upon the needs of the family.
Baby nurses usually work
24 hours at a daily rate of :
$180-220.00 for one child
$220-300.00 for twins
$300-400.00 for triplets
Temporary Nannies/Babysitters
